There are some articles recently that have suggested that you should not negotiate when it comes to financial aid. They say that you are not selling a product and that this seldom works anyways. They are so very wrong!

You absolutely ARE selling something -- YOU! But, the great news is that the college has already told you that they are buying. They already said they want you. Now, it is your turn to decide whether you want to accept their offer or one of their competitors. This is your one and only chance to keep more money in your pocket during these critical years. Here are a few important things to keep in mind:

  1. Colleges are prepared to negotiate. They fully expect that this may happen. However, VERY FEW students actually do this. And that means that they are choosing to pay more than they need to. Don't let that be you.

  2. You are only going to get money that you deserve. This is NOT swindling money from colleges nor is it taking money from other students. I assure you that no college will give you more money than you deserve or what they can afford.

  3. You will never see the person we are negotiating with on campus. Ever.

  4. The person you negotiate with is not spending their personal money -- it is the college's money. This money is only personal to you and your family.

Look, I know that many of you would not know where to start this process, would have no clue how much to ask for, and find the idea of negotiating really icky. That is where WE come in! Let us help you navigate this process and keep money in your pocket!
